My High Poly Tank.  Next to make it low poly and then bake the normal map.

Monday, 22 October 2012

I have been working on a small project in my spare time while I have been studying at University.  This also has the benefit of letting me get to grips with the basics of modelling in max.

Most of the model is done mesh wise, I need to check the edges and vertices to make sure the polygon count is as efficient as it could be.  Then comes the process of UVW unwrapping followed my texturing, which will also require a normal map to give the depth detail.

A few weeks ago I did an interview with JK Hub releating to my old maps I made for various games.

Take a nostalgic trip back in time.... or just to a different webpage, here:-

SQUIRREL ON FENCE ANIMATION

Updated what I learnt in the first lesson.  Experimenting with various things to see what happens.

Still just a basic animation, of a squirrel like ball hopping along a fence.

Plans are to make a second ball hop in, scare the other one which turns and flees.  Or even have them fight over an acorn.

First off I made a sketch of what I wanted...

Then I made a simple cartoon background in photoshop...

I mapped the first sketch onto a plane in 3ds max 2013, in order to model the fence and the gate.  The cartoon was mapped onto another plane just behind the sketch ready for the final product.

I then added the animation and turned it into a movie using shaded models not realistic.

Looking back at the anim, after the new stuff i've learned, the tail needs sorting and the bouncing in places.

Update time!  Been having a lot of fun this week with animation.  Well when I say fun I mean hooked to death on it...

The brief was to use the animation example here

http://www.angryanimator.com/word/2010/11/26/animation-tutorial-1-bouncing-ball/

and recreate it using what we had learnt in 3ds Max 2013.

First I made this:

I noticed the tail was not quite right, it was intersecting the floor, so time for a few tweeks:

Then the animation bug bit me:

The Tail in this one was doing some odd things, so I need to correct it.  I posted it anyway for future reference and how I improve as I go.

Then a few hours later... the bug bit me again....

UNREAL TOURNAMENT 3 SINGLE PLAYER LEVEL

Here are some jpegs from my Single player map for Unreal Tournament 3.

Set in a facility used to mine gas for weapons.

Not really a level as such, but this shows off a model I have been making in real life, made out of foamboard and balsa wood.  It is based on an Inn I thought up for my novel, I haven't worked on it for a while due to study, but I hope to finish it with a waterfall and some landscape and of course finish painting it.  The next step will be to try and make it in a 3d program.  There are some areas I was not happy with, such as I didn't apply enough sand to the one wall in picture 4 and it looks odd.  The patches are meant to be areas of wall that have worn away.
